India is eyeing to host the 2036 Olympics and Indian sports administrators will lobby hard for this during the Paris Olympics starting next month. The Mission Olympic Unit (MOC) of the Sports Authority of India on Thursday submitted a detailed report related to the claim to host the Olympics to the new Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya. In its report, the MOC has mentioned six sports, which can be included in the Olympics if India gets the right to host. These sports include yoga, kho-kho, kabaddi, chess, T-20 cricket and squash. If India is successful in getting the right to host, it will also try to include indigenous sports like yoga, kho-kho and kabaddi in it.

The rights to host the games have not been decided yet and the preferences of the host country will be discussed later. A decision on this is likely to be taken only after the election of the IOC President next year. If India gets the hosting, then the proposed games will first be included as exhibition games during the Olympic Games to be held in Brisbane in 2032. Only after this, these games will be considered for inclusion in the Olympics. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had said during the IOC Congress in Mumbai last year that India is willing to host the Olympic Games to be held in 2036.

We met the new sports minister and handed over the report to him. He said it would take him a few days to read it. He also asked us to prepare another report on how sports can become a career option in the country and how interest in sports can be generated among the youth. The Olympic bid will be discussed after the Paris Olympics for which we are fully prepared, but we will have to lobby with the IOC (International Olympic Committee) during the Paris Olympics and we are fully prepared for that, a senior MOC member told news agency PTI.
